Your Grandparents Knew: The Weapons We Stopped Using

A sobering call to reclaim the battle.

Today's talk is a real wake-up call for Catholics who may have become stagnant in their faith. The spiritual battle that the Bible and the Church has been talking about all these years isn't just some story. It is unfolding right now, and we must prepare for battle. For folks sitting in the pews at whatever parish you attend, these sacraments need to be your guiding light. The sacraments—Baptism, Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist are not just something we do because that's what we've always done. They are divine graces that will help to secure your eternal destiny. Baptism stakes your claim for God. Confession cuts off what demons latch onto. And the Eucharist? That's the real deal—the grace the enemy hates most. If you've been slacking on getting to Mass or haven't been to Confession since who knows when, it's time to answer the call and return to your faith.

Fasting and Prayer

The Church only requires that you abstain and fast during the lenten season on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The Church requires you to abstain on all Fridays during Lent, but let's face it, the old-timers had it right—no meat every Friday, year-round. It's not about suffering for the sake of suffering; it's about training yourself to say no. You want to stop falling into the same sins over and over? Start small. Skip the bacon on Friday. Pray the Angelus at 6, noon, and 6 like your grandparents did when the church bells rang. Get a rosary going daily. Putting order in your life is half the battle against the chaos the devil stirs up.

Here's the part that really matters for families: what your parents and grandparents did—or didn't do—can follow you. Addiction, abuse, messing around with Ouija boards or Masonic stuff, or just plain ignoring God. Those past sins open doors for evil to creep into your children and your grandchildren's lives. That is not meant to scare you; it's meant to get you to realize the importance of daily prayer and fasting in your home. Pray over your children and your grandchildren. Have your home blessed by a Priest yearly. Light holy candles for your family and friends. If there's rubbish in your family tree, renounce it and get it cleaned up through the sacraments. You are the one God put in charge of your home. The good news is that none of this is permanent. Jesus can break any of it. No family is too far gone. Get to Confession, get back to Mass, and start fighting for your people.
